Project Overview
Puntarenas' waters held immense potential, but the lack of accurate tracking cast a long shadow over its fishing industry. Imagine a system where every catch could be traced, every step of the process monitored. This wasn't just a matter of efficiency; it was about unlocking sustainable growth and empowering the local community. Our client came to us with a vision: to transform this 'black box' into a transparent, data-driven ecosystem.
With a lack of information of where fish was coming from, what was being caught and when, by whom and more. All that was known is that it was an active area for fishing and the fish was then being processed and sold around the country.
Our approach
We spoke with the relevant stakeholders and determined what was wrong with the situation and what they were looking for.
After we understood what they required, we spoke with our conservation technologist to give valid input on what types of information would be important to include to not only gather traceability but also to look at the current status of the fish populations.
We then developed and built the platform, created user guides and training sessions.
The software is currently being used to gather data and track the fish.
Outcome
As a result we built a platform that gives transparency to the fishing industry in that area, with tracking where the fish was caught, by whom, when and with what method, the fish is then tracked completely through the processing and transport onto clients.
